Words from the Founders

Mr. D. G. Sherpa, President
Since our humble beginnings towards various initiatives as key facilitator in socio economic development through promotion of local resource base income generating activities in North district of Sikkim, people of its targeted areas ratified a formal administrative structure; one based on NCSO’s core values of activeness, non-hierarchy, participatory democracy and transparency, and consequently elected a new coordination team. In addition to discussing strategies for the growth of the organization in the coming years, the peoples’ participation also gave us an opportunity to learn about the work of different programs, and understand ways in which we can improve our efforts towards socio economic empowerment. Over the past years, the programs carried out have grown to now include healthcare, curriculum improvement, gender equity, children at risk, national resource management and community ownership, ecology and legal help for women.

Through out the years we held several awareness, trainings events, economic empowerment of the poor through mobilizing community people in addition to promote small enterprises, women groups for community development issues, etc. These events provide great opportunities for our team, target group as well as our supporter to understand more about the issues surrounding what efforts can be taken towards empowerment through initiatives, significant announcements being made for the developmental sector. Now the challenges for NCSO would be to translate these into significant gains for the sector. At the same time we must not forget the organizations in the underserved area. We will have to reduce the disparity among people. The task is huge and would require sustained efforts from all the professionals of NCSO. But I am sure that as they have done it before, they would be able to live up to their reputation now and further time also. I wish them all the luck. For the progress, which the association has been able to made, I would like to go on record to thank each of the executive members and the staffs for guiding the Association. I again thank every one of our well wisher, supporters, donors and the department, organization that we came in contact with this year – at our different events, the dedicated volunteers and their families who make us who we are. We hope that their support making us one step closer to our mission and towards better understanding of the issues surrounding our mission and objectives that will enable us to direct our energies better towards reaching our goals.

Mr. Lhatso Sherpa,
General Secretary
ลดe, the workers team of NCSO see this as a privilege to work for upliftment of the rural poor and the disadvantaged to organize with cooperative methodology and will work hard for fulfillment of our cherished objectives with zeal and dedication. The seed sown appears to have started giving flowers and we are waiting to see the unlimited fruits the true of development bears. We have patience to endure and courage to work with the seemingly impossible task of mitigating sufferings of the disadvantaged, weaker sections and the poor.

Income generation is a mission for the organization, by which the platform of the organization can be sustained for long run for the poor, where grant only not the main factor of initiative. The main thought is that it should work for the society as the platform created as key of development sector through its own professional involvement. Instead of seeking assistance as on today it is being involved in developing its own income generating activities as well as involved in building the capacities of the staff as to be key person through which the platform for the society established can be sustained long. After getting a sustainable justification as capable and professional quality from its journey through its own activities, it is also availing assistance from concern different departments and agencies, donors simultaneously and gradually in broad sense of development of the underdevelopment society towards its maturity of works performance. Simultaneously to provide better support to the key persons working for the platform, the existing activities are being spreading out and new units have been setup though participatory approach. We eagerly expect invaluable cooperation in our further journey from our well wishers all time for making sustainable change in development sector. I on behalf of the team of the organization would like to offer my sincere gratitude to all those, who made us able to fit on todays position.
